The Northshore Urban Centre will be one of the lynchpins of daily life, a multi-purpose community facility with shopping, services and fun, with facilities including:
- cafés and restaurants
- specialty shopping
- full range supermarket and convenience shopping
- office and commercial tenancies
- gymnasium
- library
- meeting space
- medical centre
- childcare centre
- tavern.
The people-friendly streets, with shady spots and comfortable seats, will appeal to everyone.
Another unique Northshore Hamilton feature is the inclusion of more than 13 hectares of inter-connected parkland – over 20% of the PBC land area.
The master plan provides for five hectares of parkland at the entrance and adjacent to the urban centre, while neighbourhood parks dotted throughout the precinct will make it a joy to be outside in the fresh air. In fact, parkland areas will be located no more than five minutes’ walk from every residential dwelling.
The 2.5 hectare Northshore Hamilton Riverside Park
will be a natural gathering place for residents and visitors, with a children’s play area, ripple lawn, barbecue and picnic area, and a great open space just perfect for informal cricket or football games. There’ll also be a performance space, an Information Centre and Café, and a History Walk – commemorating the social, cultural and land use history of the area, from pre-European settlement to the present day.
In keeping with Northshore Hamilton’s commitment to ecologically sustainable design and development principles, it’s intended that a dual-pipe water supply system, utilising recycled stormwater and roof water run-off and/or treated waste water will provide the bulk irrigation required to establish the public parks.
