The emergence of Northshore Hamilton as a new urban neighbourhood will bring life and a fresh focus back to the river.
The history of this landmark site is woven into the fabric of the city.
- The site began as fertile hunting grounds and later saw the establishment of the first Hamilton wharves in 1923.
- As development of the Port of Brisbane continued, the Hamilton wharves in the 1960s became the main container shipping and general cargo centre.
- In the 1980s, the winds of change saw the establishment of a deepwater port at Fisherman Islands and the gradual relocation of port operations.
As the Port of Brisbane Corporation Limited (PBC) pursued its strategy to amalgamate port operations to its Fisherman Islands headquarters, a unique opportunity arose to open up two kilometres of riverfront land for unprecedented urban renewal.
